From Theory to Practice: The Technologies Already Transforming Healthcare in the Region

Bogotá, July 2026. For years, medical conferences predicted that digitalization would boost healthcare and health systems. In 2026, that phase has come to an end. Latin American hospitals are making concrete investments to bring medical technology out of modernization plans and straight into emergency rooms and operating theaters. This leap toward real-world implementation takes center stage at the ninth edition of Meditech, opening its doors from July 28 to 31 at Corferias.

Today, pediatric hospitals in Colombia face a paradox: fewer children are being born. According to DANE, in 2025 the country registered 20,000 fewer births than the previous year. "At the same time, older adults—whose life expectancy used to be 63—now live to 79 and manage hypertension, diabetes, and chronic conditions requiring continuous monitoring. Hospitals must read this context accurately to adapt their infrastructure," noted Juan Carlos Giraldo, Director of the Colombian Association of Hospitals and Clinics (ACHC).

"The core of any healthcare system is not the institution; it is the individual. And today, that individual moves across an ecosystem of options: outpatient care, home care, telemedicine, and remote monitoring. All these tools already exist. What we need to understand is how to integrate them," Dr. Giraldo concluded.

To meet these challenges through tech adoption, the Meditech 2026 agenda will showcase several tools that are already active within the healthcare system:

• Real-Time Interoperability: Cloud-based platforms enable emergency specialists to instantly access test results performed by a patient a year ago in another city. This speeds up diagnosis, eliminates duplicate testing, and reduces out-of-pocket expenses for patients.

• Internet of Medical Things (IoMT): Connected biometric patches and infusion monitors alert nursing stations to potential decompensation hours before symptoms appear, turning ICUs into predictive prevention centers.

• Surgical Robotics: Robotic arms and image-guided navigation systems are enabling minimally invasive orthopedic and neurological surgeries that shorten recovery times from weeks to days, freeing up beds much faster.

To give executives a firsthand look at the latest innovations brought to the sector, Meditech features the Arena CEATH—a dedicated space for knowledge and innovation where the Estrella CEATH finalists will pitch their newest developments, technologies, and solutions for the healthcare industry.

In this edition, 28 exhibiting companies submitted 36 innovative products and services, from which 9 finalists will be selected across the Innovation, Sustainability, and Quality categories. During the event, finalists will present their proposals to visitors and industry experts at the Arena CEATH, promoting knowledge exchange and raising the visibility of top innovations.

In addition to competing for jury recognition in their respective categories, finalists will vie for the "People's Choice Award," an honor voted on by attendees to highlight the solution that generates the greatest interest and impact among trade show visitors.
