The Healthcare Roadmap: Key Operational and Financial Lessons Outlined in Meditech 2026
Bogotá, July 2026. Beyond equipment displays and business transactions, the true value of a medical platform lies in the knowledge it imparts. With projections for investment in healthcare technology reaching approximately USD 1.6 billion for Latin America by the end of this year, the ninth edition of Meditech—July 28–31 at Corferias—is expected to be the premier forum where clinics and hospitals will find the operational and financial solutions the healthcare system needs today.
“Meditech has evolved to become the premier learning platform for the healthcare sector in the Andean region. International delegations and healthcare executives don’t just come to compare prices or view medical devices—they come to understand how other countries are addressing overcrowding crises, how they finance innovation, and what lessons they can immediately replicate in Colombia,” said Ana Garibello, Meditech Project Manager at Corferias.
The academic program and trade show highlight three key takeaways that decision-makers will gain from the event.
Technology as a Tool for Financial Sustainability. Faced with projected medical inflation exceeding 11.9% in the region, savings can no longer be achieved by cutting staff or services but rather by automating operations. Attendees will see how the implementation of claims management software and smart inventory systems can reduce operational losses, demonstrating that the investment in technology pays for itself in the short term.
Without interoperability, expensive equipment is useless. There’s no point in having the best CT scanner or the most modern ICU if that equipment doesn’t communicate with the patient’s electronic health record. The infrastructure priority for the coming years is data integration. A smart hospital isn’t the one with the most screens, but the one that gets all its systems to speak the same language in real time.
The decentralization of care through the IoMT. The concept of hospitalization is being redefined. With demonstrations of the Internet of Medical Things and advanced telemedicine, hospital administrators will learn to structure home care models: remote monitors and predictive algorithms that allow for the monitoring of a chronic patient from home with the same clinical rigor as in a hospital room, freeing up beds for critical emergencies.
The panel on the best hospitals in Ibero-America, which will feature representatives from Hospital de La Paz (Spain), Sirio Libanês (Brazil), Hospital Austral (Argentina), and Valle de Lilli (Colombia), will be one of the most anticipated events at the 16th International Congress of Hospitals and Clinics. Each institution will share the operational and technological decisions that led them to this level of excellence, offering Colombian executives concrete and replicable best practices tailored to their specific context.
“There is no one-size-fits-all formula for the hospital of the future. The answer lies in adaptation: analyzing the context, understanding the demographics of your region, and adjusting the model. Each hospital or clinic can strengthen itself in response to its demographic context: where it is located, who its patients are, and what diseases it faces. Meditech will delve into these parameters that a healthcare institution needs to understand in order to respond to its patients,” stated Juan Carlos Giraldo, Director of the Colombian Association of Hospitals and Clinics (ACHC).
Meanwhile, the Safe Hospital Award—which marks its eighth edition this year and coincides with the ACHC’s 70th anniversary—will recognize the Colombian institutions that have made the most progress in patient safety. This year, institutions will receive the award at the excellence level, and for the first time, a pilot program for home care institutions will be included—a clear sign of the direction in which the care model in Colombia is heading.
