Healthcare and Innovation: Investment Opportunities That Are Attracting Foreign Capital to Latin America

Bogotá, July 2026. The healthcare sector in Latin America is no longer viewed solely as a public expense. Investment funds, multilateral banks, and multinational manufacturers are investing in the region, directing capital toward telemedicine, interoperability platforms, and advanced diagnostic equipment. Colombia has emerged as one of the continent’s most attractive markets: 28 foreign visitors arrive in Bogotá every day for medical tourism, the country projects it will attract 2.8 million medical travelers by 2032, and treatments can cost between 40% and 70% less than in Europe. This is confirmed by data from Migración Colombia, Colombia Productiva, and ProColombia.

In this context, the ninth edition of Meditech will take place July 28–31 at Corferias in Bogotá, serving as the venue where this demand for modernization meets the global technological supply.

“Meditech demonstrates that the healthcare system is growing. Institutions are seeking ways to meet the needs of today’s patients and safeguard the health of tomorrow.   The combination of these efforts forms the foundation of a healthcare system tailored to its population,” said Juan Carlos Giraldo, Director of the Colombian Association of Hospitals and Clinics (ACHC).

Colombia already generates nearly USD 276.7 million annually in health tourism revenue, with a projected figure of USD 359 million by 2029, according to ProColombia. Bogotá accounts for 37% of that international demand, with patients arriving primarily from the United States, the Netherlands, Venezuela, Panama, and Ecuador. To sustain this growth, clinics and hospitals require top-tier technological infrastructure—and that is precisely the conversation that Meditech facilitates.

During the four-day trade show, digital health startups, clinical software developers, and medical equipment manufacturers will meet with financial managers and medical directors who have active modernization budgets. The Business Matching Event, organized in partnership with ProColombia, is the key venue for finalizing these discussions—in the previous edition, 53 companies participated and 469 business meetings were held.

“Drawing on Messe Düsseldorf’s expertise and the MEDICA brand allows us to assure foreign investors that they are entering a market with global standards. Meditech has evolved into a platform where real technology transfer partnerships are forged in the Andean region,” said Ana Garibello, Meditech Project Manager at Corferias.

Clinic managers, investment fund representatives, distributors, and industry professionals can view the exhibitor catalog and register at feriameditech.com.
